PROHIBITION OF CARRYING A LAPTOP WHILE AT SCHOOL

In this globalization era, technology has its development. Because of it, reducing the usage of paper and replacing it with gadget or more well-known by the term of paperless often we hear. But it is not easy to be applied throughout Indonesia, which is one of the countries that affected by globalization. As well as in MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong, where I am now studying. With different constraints, paperless is difficult to be applied. If at IC, paperless programme is by using a laptop as media studying. But, we often get the misusage of laptop. And finally, school leaders issued a policy of banning the usage of laptops to the school without the teacher’s recommendation on its subject. And I quite agree with the policy by considering some reasons that will be outlined in the following paragraphs.

First reason, laptop is one of electronic devices that use batteries as an energy. And the battery is not always full. And we certainly need electricity when charging the battery. Therefore, being allowed to bring laptops to school, it is definitely will increase the usage of electricity. Moreover, with many students of MAN Insan Cendekia Serpong will drain a quite lot of electricity. But if we do not bring laptops to school, it is definitely the usage of electricity will be reduced, and the library will be utilized.

Then, many times I saw during school hours while the teacher was explaining the material or friend was explaining to the class, there are students who give more attention to his laptop. And those who are in front of the class, few or even no attention from the other students. And it is not seldom for the students to ignore the material submitted. Because their attention has been focused on their laptop.

Furthermore, this is the most important reason why the usage of laptop is prohibited or should be banned in schools. We often get the misusage of laptop.many students often use their laptop for things outside of the lessons or just to play around. Just as previous reason, if the student was given the freedom to bring laptops to school, the feared thing is student will be confused, between learning or playing. And usually, if students are allowed to bring laptops to school, they tend to be looking for an opportunity to be able to play, no matter how small that chance. Even it is possible when the teacher is explaining material.

Therefore, with things above as consideration, I agree with the policy of banning the usage of laptops in schools without the permission of the teacher concerned. As a student, I also need my laptop for doing the task, but I am not with the laptop. Which forced me to use the computer lab that has been provided for students who wish to work on a laptop. And in fact, if we think more critically, there will be many ways that  we can use to be able to complete the task of the teacher without having a reason to depend on the laptop. Do not look for reasons to do things that are deviant, but there are millions of reasons to do things that are good.
